Dakkada FC survived Vandrezzer Academy’s upset scare in the Akwa Ibom FA cup tie yesterday at the Godswilll Akpabio international stadium training pitch yesterday which was the first game of the competition.
Vandrezzer Academy will be proud of themselves for the strong outing in a competitive competition against a Nigeria Professional Premier League (NPFL) in Dakkada despite their painful loss an exit out of the FA Cup.
Alfred Madaki’s side put in a good shift and stood their ground all through the game and got the deserved lead in the dying minutes of the first half with John Francis finishing brilliantly at the top right hand corner after a sublime team move to get the lead heading into the second half.
They headed into the second half but didn’t take long into the second, just six minutes after the second phase with fan favorite Lasisi grabbing the equalizer for Danlami’s side.
Both sides kept themselves in the game with both team goalkeepers making crucial saves as the search for a winner rages on with fans invested in the verve cracking encounter.
With just two minutes before the end of the second half with the game poised for a penalty shoot out, Vandrezzer’s left back carelessly handled the ball in his box leading to a right penalty call from the center referee.
Veteran midfielder and captain Ekpe stepped up and coolly slotted the spot kick to complete his team comeback and progression into the next round.
Following their win, Dakkada FC will now play reigning champions Akwa United at the EKET Township stadium for their next game as Deji Ayeni’s side had been drawn by.
